The 5' 2" Salma Hayek was born September 2, 1966 in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. Salma grew up in an affluent family, her father an oil exec and her mother a mexican opera singer.
Salma showed some spunk early on by being expelled from the Academy of the Sacred Heart - a Catholic schoolgirl. Salma dropped out of her formal education to pursue acting - her parents weren't pleased.
Salma Hayek was a star in Mexico before crossing over to US audiences. Salma moved to LA in 1991. She didn't get her breakout role until 1995 in the movie Desperado. Salma went on to land high profile roles in From Dusk Till Dawn, Wild Wild West, Dogma, and Traffic. The movie Frida was co-produced by Selma. Hayek was nominated from an Academy Award for this performance - personally I couldn't get past the uni-brow... Lately Hayek has been producing and starring in Ugly Betty - where she looks smokin' hot.
